Prosthetic Arms, Joints & Limbs

A prosthetic implant is an artificial device that replaces a missing body part. The commonest types of prosthesis are for legs (lower extremities) or arms (upper extremities).

Limb loss may have been caused by through trauma, disease, or a condition present at birth (Congenital deformity).

Prosthetic Legs

There are several classifications of lower extremity prostheses, depending on the level of amputation. These include:

  • hip disarticulation
  • transfemoral prosthesis
  • knee disarticulation
  • transtibial prosthesis
  • Syme’s amputation
  • foot, partial foot, and toe.

The two main subcategories of lower extremity prosthetic devices are:

Trans-tibial Prostheses (Below Knee)

Any amputation transecting (cutting across) the tibia bone (Shin) or a congenital anomaly resulting in a tibial deficiency.

Trans-femoral (Above Knee) Prostheses

any amputation transecting (cutting across) the femur bone (thigh bone) or a congenital anomaly resulting in a femoral deficiency.

Prosthetics are customized based on the patient missing body part, patient height among other factors. These customizations are possible from manufacturing, fitting and rehabilitation

Prosthetic Limbs

Above Knee Prosthetic Leg

This type of prosthetic leg is for patients who have undergone transfemoral amputation (AKA). Above knee, prostheses take into consideration the knee joint movement, the ankle joint, and weight distribution bilaterally.

Adding a transfemoral prosthetic leg reduces walking energy expenditure by 80%. GM medical is your one-stop source for quality prosthetic legs

Below Knee Prosthetic Leg

Bellow Knee Prosthetic Leg

Below knee prostheses depend on several factors such as activity intensity, patient size, the circumference of the stump and the shoe size. This requires an evaluation by a prosthetist specifically trained to handle sensitive kinesiologic measurements.

GM Medical is here to make sure you get everything you need to get back on your feet again.

Prosthetic Arms

Prosthetic arms are the most complex types due to complex fine motor movements of the hands. There are different types of technologies focusing on upper extremity prosthetics.

Cost of upper extremity prosthetics is usually high, depending on the complexity of the technology used. Some upper extremity prosthetics are can function with coordination with the brain.

That means the patient can be able to do limited fine motor skills like greeting, holding, releasing, hand supination & pronation, and some fine motor movements.
